Introduction
The Web3 space attracts scammers who impersonate projects, support teams, and community members to steal funds. The good news is that almost every scam relies on the same handful of tricks. Learn these rules once and you can spot the vast majority of them.
The Golden Rules
- Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase or private key. Not with LFG, not with "support," not with anyone. Anyone who asks for it is trying to steal your wallet. A real support team will never need it.
- LFG will never message you first asking for money or access. We will not DM you to "validate" your wallet, claim a prize, fix your node, or send funds to a wallet to "unlock" rewards. Treat any such message as a scam.
- Never enter your recovery phrase on a website. Connecting a wallet only ever asks you to approve in your wallet app. A page that asks you to type your 12 words is a phishing site.
- Verify the URL before you connect. Scammers register look-alike domains with small misspellings. Bookmark the real sites and use your bookmarks, rather than clicking links from DMs, emails, or ads.
- Slow down when you feel rushed. Urgency, countdown timers, and "limited spots" pressure are designed to stop you from thinking. Real opportunities do not require you to act in the next sixty seconds.
Common Scams to Watch For
- Fake support in DMs: someone posing as an LFG admin or moderator who reaches out privately to "help." Real support happens in public channels, and our team will not ask for your keys.
- Fake giveaways and airdrops: "send 1 token to receive 2 back," or "claim your reward" links that lead to a phishing site.
- Look-alike websites: a near-perfect copy of an official site on a slightly different address, built to capture your recovery phrase or drain your wallet on connect.
- Fake wallet downloads: wallet apps or extensions from unofficial sources. Only install from the official source, such as metamask.io for MetaMask.
Use Our Official Links
The safest way to avoid impersonators is to only use our verified channels. See LFG Incorporated Official Links for the canonical list, and bookmark the ones you use. Our main channels are:
- Website: https://lfg.inc/
- Discord: LFG: Mission Control
- X (Twitter): @LFGincorporated
- Telegram: t.me/lfginc
If Something Seems Off
Do not click, do not connect your wallet, and do not send funds. Verify through one of the official channels above, and report anything suspicious in our Discord so we can warn others. When in doubt, slow down and ask. It is always cheaper to check first than to recover from a mistake.
